Asbestos testing& inspection
You can't tell asbestos by looking at it. Testing before renovation or demolition protects workers, occupants and your schedule.
DOSH
Before youdisturb anything
Asbestos was used in hundreds of building products for decades, including flooring, ceiling texture, joint compound, insulation, pipe wrap, siding and roofing. Buildings built before the 1980s are the most likely to contain it, but the only way to know is to sample suspect materials and have them analyzed by an accredited laboratory.
Testing comes before renovation, repair or demolition, because those are the activities that release fibers. Federal rules generally require an asbestos inspection before demolition of most facilities, and many projects need test results before permits are issued.
Before renovation
Kitchen and bath remodels, flooring replacement, ceiling work and additions.
Before demolition
Full-structure surveys for demolition and major gut work.
Property transactions
Testing during due diligence on older buildings.

Asbestos TestingFAQ
How long does asbestos testing take?
The walkthrough and sampling are usually quick; lab turnaround depends on the lab and number of samples. We'll give you a timeline up front.
Can I take my own samples?
Disturbing suspect material without training and protection can release fibers. Sampling should be done by trained professionals.
Do I need testing before a remodel?
If the building is older and the work will disturb materials, testing first is the safe and often required step.
What if the results come back positive?
Material that will be disturbed should be removed by a registered abatement contractor first. Alliance holds CA DOSH Registration #1090.
